Onondaga superpowers | Pointe-au-Père maritime historic site

For this project, the Pointe-au-Père maritime historic site was looking to develop a complementary offering to the Onondaga submarine visit. Bande à Paul’s concept, developed in close collaboration with CREO, includes a global, fun, and interactive tour, where learning happens through manipulation, experimentation, and observation. The Onondaga is immersed in the colourful and fascinating world of superheroes. The premise: A submarine has impressive superpowers that allow it to accomplish seemingly extraordinary and improbable tasks.

By using the intermediary of the superhero world, it’s possible to convey technical content, which might otherwise seem dry, in an accessible way and transform it into a striking and dynamic experience for visitors.

Using brightly coloured structures that draw their inspiration from the look of maritime buoys, two approaches are used. The first approach is digital and links mechanical experimentation with the submarine. The content, which takes the form of a mini game with animated schematic illustrations and video capsules, is automatically triggered by NFC chips. The second, text-based approach is printed on edutainment panels and complements the experience with facts and anecdotes.

Beautifully integrated into the surroundings of the Onondaga, these sturdy and resistant structures, drawing on the robust and unvarnished aesthetics of submarines, enrich the visitor experience and allow those who cannot board the submarine to come into contact with the imposing vessel.
